‘The Last Day On Earth’ was written by Kate Miller-Heidke and her husband in 2009. It is a song about lost love and heartache. As Kate Miller-Heidke told The Daily Telegraph in an interview:
“A lot of people online seem to think I am heralding the end of the world in 2012; others have suggested it is about a soldier who isn’t coming home because the video is filmed in an old house,” she says. “Someone suggested it is about miscarriage because I am clutching my stomach during the video.
“It’s all of those things … it comes down to the emotion of the music that people have connected with, the emotion of grief and loss and heartbreak. And yes, the tears in the video were 100 per cent real but after about 10 takes I was all dried up.”
Lyrics
Look down,
The ground below is crumbling.
Look up,
The stars are all exploding.
The ground below is crumbling.
Look up,
The stars are all exploding.
Hey yeah, hey yeah oh oh
Hey yeah, hey yeah
Hey yeah, hey yeah
It’s the last, day on earth,
In my dreams, in my dreams,
It’s the end, of the world,
And you’ve come back, to me.
In my dreams.
In my dreams, in my dreams,
It’s the end, of the world,
And you’ve come back, to me.
In my dreams.
Between, the dust and the debris
There’s a light,
Surrounding you and me.
Surrounding you and me.
Hey yeah, hey yeah oh oh
Hey yeah, hey yeah
Hey yeah, hey yeah
It’s the last, day on earth,
In my dreams, in my dreams,
It’s the end, of the world,
And you’ve come back, to me.
In my dreams.
In my dreams, in my dreams,
It’s the end, of the world,
And you’ve come back, to me.
In my dreams.
And you hold me closer than I,
Can ever remember being held,
And I’m not, afraid to sleep now,
If we can stay like this until
Can ever remember being held,
And I’m not, afraid to sleep now,
If we can stay like this until
It’s the last, day on earth,
In my dreams, in my dreams,
It’s the end, of the world,
And you’ve come back, to me.
In my dreams, in my dreams,
It’s the end, of the world,
And you’ve come back, to me.
Hey yeah, hey yeah oh oh
Hey yeah, hey yeah oh oh
In my head I replay our conversations,
Over and over ’til they feel like hallucinations,
Over and over ’til they feel like hallucinations,
You know me, I love to lose my mind.
And every time anybody speaks your name,
I still feel the same, I ache, I ache, I ache inside.
And every time anybody speaks your name,
I still feel the same, I ache, I ache, I ache inside.
I ache, I ache, I ache inside.
I ache, I ache, I ache inside.
I ache, I ache, I ache inside.
I ache, I ache, I ache inside.
I ache, I ache, I ache inside.
