Billy Idol has been touring the world recently and one of the songs he has been performing is from his most recent 2014 album called Kings and Queens of the Underground. Before Billy Idol performed this song in Sydney on February 1, 2020, he explains to the audience that although his dad was never really interested in his music, he did take a liking to his son’s most recent album, particularly the song ‘Ghosts In My Guitar’. Billy tells the audience that he wasn’t with his dad at the time of his passing (his father had been battling cancer) but Billy’s mum told him that his father was listening to this song at the time that he passed away. This song was performed as a tribute to his dad. Notice the visual presentation on the back wall of the stage shows photos of Billy Idol with his dad.
Lyrics
Didn’t have a reason
Didn’t have much more to say
Looking green
Y’know, some people never make it
Out of this scene
Adios my friend, we had one hell of a time
There’s a voice in my head
That says without fire
We’re better off dead
And I thank you all
The ghosts in my guitar
Next time I looked around
She’d run off with you
Well, I was out there playing
‘Round the world
No time to think about another lost girl
There’s a voice in my head
That says without fire
We’re better off dead
And I thank you all
The ghosts in my guitar
Ghosts in my guitar
I’ve played every game and yes,
I walked into hell
And yes, down on my luck
I played the fool
Had you to live for
Now I’m back here for good
There’s a voice in my head
That says without fire
We’re better off dead
And I thank you all
The ghosts in my guitar
Ghosts in my guitar
Will only take me so far
The ghosts in my guitar
‘Cause I’ve got to walk on
