According to an article from The Daily Mail, Chris Martin, the singer from Coldplay was being interviewed by British radio host Zane Lowe, where Chris explains the meaning behind the song “Everglow”.
‘I was in the ocean one day with this surfer guy. He was like, “Yo dude, I was doing this thing the other day, man. It gave me this total everglow!” I was like, “What an amazing word!”
‘Then the song came completely out. To me, it’s about – whether it’s a loved one or a situation or a friend or a relationship that’s finished, or someone’s passed away – I was really thinking about, after you’ve been through the sadness of something, you also get this everglow. That’s what it’s about.’
Lyrics
They say people go
This particular diamond was extra special
And though you might be gone, and the world may not know
Still I see you, celestial
And I should but I can’t let you go
But when I’m cold, I’m cold
Yeah, when I’m cold
Cold
There’s a light that you give me when I’m in shadow
There’s a feeling within me, an everglow
Like brothers in blood, or sisters who ride
Yeah we swore on that night we’d be friends ’til we die
And I’m gonna miss you, I know
In water rolled, salt
And you’re always with me and the way you will show
And you’re with me wherever I go
And you give me this feeling, this everglow
Because, I live for this feeling, this everglow
Oh, the light that you left me will everglow
