Bobby Tomberlin (songwriter) tells this story about writing the song;
It was the holiday season and I was thinking about people who were no longer in my life, I wasn’t thinking about writing a song. But that black Takemame guitar was in the room and I picked it up and those first lines just started falling out. I knew I had something and I was writing with Steven Dale Jones the next day, and I played him the verse and he just totally connected with it. And it’s funny, he rarely played the piano, but there was a piano in the room with us and he had been playing this lick for years, and he added that piano lick, “just one more day” and the rest of it came very easy and it was a blessing for both Steve and I, no doubt. The song was recorded by the band Diamond Rio and it reached number one twice on the US Billboard country music chart in 2001.
Lyrics
A wish was granted just for me
It could be for anything
I didn’t ask for money
Or a mansion in Malibu
I simply wished for one more day with you!
One more sunset, maybe I’d be satisfied
But then again, I know what it would do
Leave me wishing still for one more day with you
One more day
I’d unplug the telephone and keep the t.v off
I’d hold you every second
Say a million I love you’s
That’s what I’d do with one more day with you
One more sunset maybe I’d be satisfied
But then again I know what it would do
Leave me wishing still for one more day with you
One more sunset maybe I’d be satisfied
But then again I know what it would do
Leave me wishing still for one more day
Leave me wishing still for one more day
Leave me wishing still for one more day with you.
