Shadow of the Day by Linkin Park

What do you think?

In Memory of lead singer of Linkin Park, Chester Bennington: March 20 1976 – July 20, 2017

‘Shadow of the Day’ was released in 2007. There are a few different interpretations of what this song means. One theory is the song is about someone who is suffering (physically, mentally or emotionally) and that it can be easier to give up than to keep on trying.

It could also be about how eventually everyone’s life ends. “The sun will set for you and the shadow of the day will embrace the world in grey” refers to when a life ends and the only thing left behind is their memory in the minds of their family and friends. That memory is the grey shadow of the day.

Yet another interpretation is that if you let the shadows of the day (meaning the negative aspects of life) embrace the light of  day (the positive) then “the sun will set for you” (There won’t be happiness in your life). Therefore don’t allow negativity to take hold. Focus on the good in your life more than the bad. Be optimistic.

Lyrics

I close both locks below the window
I close both blinds and turn away
Sometimes solutions aren’t so simple
Sometimes goodbye’s the only way, oh
And the sun will set for you
The sun will set for you
And the shadow of the day
Will embrace the world in gray
And the sun will set for you
In cards and flowers on your window
Your friends all plead for you to stay
Sometimes beginnings aren’t so simple
Sometimes goodbye’s the only way, oh
And the sun will set for you
The sun will set for you
And the shadow of the day
Will embrace the world in gray
And the sun will set for you
And the shadow of the day
Will embrace the world in gray
And the sun will set for you
And the shadow of the day
Will embrace the world in gray
And the sun will set for you
