My best friend lost her mother about five months ago. I was with her the whole entire time and during the three days I didn’t leave her side, she kept listening to “I hope you dance” over and over again on the computer.

I just let it happen because I didn’t know what was going through her mind. I finally asked her why she kept on playing the song.

She was teary eyed and finally said, “this was the song that my mom and I chose as our song. It means a lot and is like a book in a song that tells about a life. It is my mom’s final thing that she wanted to say to me, and it tells the story of her life.”

We already knew that was going to be the song played at her funeral, and it was. It was a beautiful song to hear being played at a funeral. It was slow enough, and it has a great
meaning and telling the importance of life, and not to let it slip away. This song is a perfect song for any occasion as well as a
funeral.

Lyrics

I hope you never lose your sense of wonder,
You get your fill to eat but always keep that hunger,
May you never take one single breath for granted,
GOD forbid love ever leave you empty handed,
I hope you still feel small when you stand beside the ocean,
Whenever one door closes I hope one more opens,
Promise me that you’ll give faith a fighting chance,
And when you get the choice to sit it out or dance.

I hope you dance….I hope you dance.

I hope you never fear those mountains in the distance,
Never settle for the path of least resistance,
Livin’ might mean takin’ chances but they’re worth takin’,
Lovin’ might be a mistake but it’s worth makin’,
Don’t let some hell bent heart leave you bitter,
When you come close to sellin’ out reconsider,
Give the heavens above more than just a passing glance,
And when you get the choice to sit it out or dance.

I hope you dance….I hope you dance.
I hope you dance….I hope you dance.
(Time is a wheel in constant motion always rolling us along,
Tell me who wants to look back on their years and wonder where those years have gone.)

I hope you still feel small when you stand beside the ocean,
Whenever one door closes I hope one more opens,
Promise me that you’ll give faith a fighting chance,
And when you get the choice to sit it out or dance.

Dance….I hope you dance.
I hope you dance….I hope you dance.
I hope you dance….I hope you dance..
(Time is a wheel in constant motion always rolling us along,
Tell me who wants to look back on their years and wonder where those years have gone.)

It’s a song of encouragement

My mommy died after 5 1/2 years of ovarian cancer. She knew she was dying so she and her best friend planned her funeral. She picked out this song for my sisters and I because we were all so young and she wanted to tell us that no matter what she wants us to get out there and do what we want in life and not let anything stop our dreams.
